The OLAP Survey 4: Key Results

TM1, the single solution for planning, budgeting, forecasting, analytics and reporting

The OLAP Survey 4, the largest and most detailed survey of OLAP products to date, is a quantifiable survey of the $4 billion OLAP market. The Survey analyzes the real-world experience of large numbers of OLAP buyers: how they chose the products they did, how they used them, and how successful they were. As such, it is believed to be the largest, most thorough, fact-based analysis of the growing OLAP market.

The Survey, conducted by Nigel Pendse and Survey.com, analyzed data from 971 OLAP sites in 51 countries. No vendors were involved in developing the questions or in sponsoring the survey, making it the most reliable and unbiased research on the OLAP market. This year’s survey asked more than 50 usage and adoption questions concerning 42 different OLAP products.

Of the 42 products represented in the survey, only 11 had enough usage to be included in the report results: Applix TM1, BusinessObjects, Cognos PowerPlay, Essbase, MIS Alea, MicroStrategy, Microsoft AS, three Oracle products (Express, Discoverer, and OLAP Option) and SAP BW.

TM1, the single solution for planning, budgeting, forecasting, analytics and reporting, ranked first in many areas this year in The OLAP Survey 4, solidifying its position as a provider of quality solutions for planning, budgeting, forecasting, scorecarding, rapid query and read-write; rapid implementations; and ease of use.

Notably, the survey indicated that TM1 ranks among the top three products preferred for planning/forecasting, budgeting, scorecards, and financial consolidation/statutory reporting, key applications for Business Performance Management (BPM).

TM1 also continued its analytics “brand” with high rankings in achievement of business objectives from better decision making to faster, more accurate reporting, to saving headcount in business.

In The OLAP Survey 4, TM1 ranked top in:

  • Business goals achieved
  • Faster, more accurate reporting
  • Speed of deployment
  • Better decisions
  • Data load/pre-calculation
  • Least number of product technical problems
  • Saved headcount in business departments

Additionally, TM1 ranked in the top three in the following categories:
