TM1 OLAP Database Server

SPF Plus is powered by Applix's TM1 OLAP database, which is profoundly superior to any other OLAP engine on the market today. TM1 is the only true RAM-based, real-time multidimensional OLAP engine, offering cost-effective, functionality, performance and scalability.

Nigel Pendse of the OLAP Report says: "Applix's algorithms for both disk and memory storage are unusually efficient, so TM1 requires less hardware than other comparable solutions. The TM1 engine is particularly well optimised to deal with sparse applications and its calculate-on-demand approach avoids the pitfalls of the database explosion phenomenon [which plague other OLAP engines]. As TM1 would only store the input cells, for a [typical sparse] cube with a theoretical size of 50 billion cells, [but] actually only perhaps one million input and four million stored consolidation cells, the cubes would occupy about 13 MB on disk. By contrast, a fully precalculated approach might require in the region of 150 MB to 200 MB for the same database on disk."

In their survey comparing different OLAP engines, The OLAP Survey found that for average database load and build times, TM1 was easily the fastest in under 15 minutes versus more than 2 hours (average of all other OLAPs). The OLAP Survey states: "This level of performance indicates that TM1 is suitable for truly interactive, read-write OLAP applications."

Whereas most OLAP engines achieve fast response times by pre-calculating consolidations and derived values, TM1 eliminates the need for such lengthy batch processes using patented algorithms and loading entire models into memory - even large, multi-cube models. This is the only way users can change any data on-the-fly and view the results of such 'what-if' analyses literally within seconds.

Open Standards

OLEDB for OLAP Provider Through both the TM1 engine and the TM1 API, we provide full support for Microsoft's OLEDB for OLAP standard. Support for open standards provides our customers with choice and allows customers to leverage their investment in TM1, providing consistency and interoperability within the enterprise.

Low Total Cost of Ownership and Minimal IT Support

With a low total cost of ownership, TM1 requires less hardware, IT involvement, consulting, training and maintenance than other solutions. In fact, per a recent independent customer survey, 82% of our customers roll out TM1 applications in less than six months and at half the cost of the industry standard.
